I chose to use this website for my presentation for various reasons. Since chapter 9 section 3 mainly talks about the time period in which Jawaharlal Nehru was India's prime minister, I thought learning more information on him would be beneficial. This website includes importation facts and knowledge pertaining to Nehru's time of power and many events that occurred during those years. It also goes into detail about the challenges he faced along with his greatest achievements. I found this website very easy to pull information from and learned detailed knowledge about Nehru that the textbook did not touch on. By reading this website, I was able to obtain a better understanding on what Nehru did to assist India's economy. Not only does it expand on what he did while in power, it also has information on his personal life such as where he was born and what college he attended. Anyone looking for deeper material on Nehru's life would find this page useful.
Sydney's link on economic reforms This link was very helpful because it filled in missing information that the textbook did not provide, such as the types of economic reforms in India. The website mentioned that the 18 industries that India used to have had to be reduced to three industries. This was meant to increase efficiency and speed up the growth of the economy. Trading was also reformed and many imports were prohibited, such as consumer goods. Some raw materials could still be imported as long as one had an import license. If not, imports could also be substituted with another product that had been produced in the country. This article was helpful to lending more information about the specific economic reforms that India had to use in order to improve their economy. It explained the effects of the reforms, and whether or not they were an advantage or disadvantage. This page was very useful and gave me more information that I could expand on for this assignment.
